Remember that pay per click marketing is used by even the biggest companies out there, so you need to think a little different than the guys working for the big companies.
Example - Your selling dog collars, and the keyword that you choose to target you customers is "dog collars". Well guess what, Pets Mart and Petco. are probably doing the same. Find the words that have less competition, like "poodle dog collars" or "greyhound collars". These keywords are still relevant, but they are more specific. Think about keywords that you would search.
